I have never had the chance to hear the hardware itself but this channel strip sound great on my home recorded vocal track (male vocal) The EQ works perfectly and somehow I found it more characteristic and perfect than 1081 on the same track. The only reason I rate 4 out 5 that the gate is almost unusable on vocal tracks because the maximum attach time is 7 ms. Vocal inhaling would need more. Please change this in this soft inspite of the hardware's authenticity. I think it would be useful. I will definetaly use this on my tracks.
i use almost first this great plugin, and then adjust with another comp or eq...
the only thing, is the gain knob for eq is too much subtle from 0 to 3/4; then too hard!
it's not rare to push to 4/5 on a frequence!
Once I got use to the layout the fun started. I love the gate / expander a lot because of it's responsiveness. I must admit that you have to pay attention to what your doing because it can be a bit finicky. The comp / limiter is good. I find that I have to work at getting the right sonic results of what i hear in my head. I us the eq the most, because it represents that true analogue experience within a plug in. I get very good results when boosting or cutting the lower frequencies. The filters are decent and being able to change the order of the dynamics and the equalizer section is awesome ! Overall I find you have to work at making this plug in do the things that modern plugins do. Hey a little work never hurt anyone ... right !
The gate clicks,
apart from that little hickup it ran very smoothly indeed.
If you want results...fast, accurate, warm, no other is best....
You can build also a chain with multiple plugins to get exactly the same that you can with this, but this is a hands on plugging...all you need in a chain is here.
And very DSP efficient....40 mono 88RS tracks in a session is not bad at all.
Best of all is the warm color that it gives to your tracks, even with no processing, just plug it and hear how sound changes. Delicate EQ, great Comp and awesome gate.
What more do you need eh??
A great plugin for drums, bass, and vocals. Warms everything up very nicely; like a warm coat. I'm very happy with this purchase.
The Neve 88RS is my most frequently used plugin. The simplicity of the design allows quick, high-quality tonal shaping and compression to your track. It's light on your processor, and even the UAD2-Solo can host enough instances to put on virtually all of your tracks and still leaves room for other plugins. If I had to pick one improvement, I would like to see a "undo" or A/B compare functionality within the 88RS. However, as-is it's still my favorite and most-used Universal Audio Plugin. Highly recommended.
It's a nice tool to simulate a Neve Desk. Compressor, Gate and EQ within it. Like them all but since I have the SSL Channelstrip the Neve on gets a little dustiness in my plugin rack... I just have the feeling to get faster better results with SSL. Can't really explain why.
I use this one exclusively on drums, I prefer the 1072 and 1081. I find the compressor a bit hard to work with, it is not as inituitive as the 1176, LA3 and so on.
It simply takes me a bit too long to get the compressor to do what I want it to do, so many times I end up using the noisegate and the EQ only.
The Neve Channel Strip is great for breaking down the individual elements in a 'standard' analogue channel strip, which is great for someone that has come from an 'in-the-box' learning experience to learn how audio was classically processed before digital processing. I mainly use the gate and eq, occasionally throwing in the filters too. The eq is nice and clean, great for general, non-impactful shaping. The gate is flexible, and has been hugely useful to me for giving my close mics the proper punch by removing excessive bleed. Only slight complaint is the release dial of the gate hasn't got many intervals at the most useful end, and ends on the pretty useless 3sec. Other than that, it's great, I use it on all my close drum mics.
Ein Plug In was ein Synthesizer zum Leben erweckt!
excellent devices, and how I could compare, for harder production ssl is better and neve for softer, often combine neve eq, and ssl comp
excellent devices, and how I could compare, I think it is harder for ssl better production and neve for softer
The Neve 88rs sounds great!!
I love that top end sparkle, it's great on drums and vocals.
A very nice emulation IMHO.. A must have indeed!
Neve 88RS plug-in is my first choice Channel Strip.
This is a time saver, but sounds are exact and great.
I want UA to recreate New Neve 88RS with modern modeling technology again.
I mixed my SAE final test on a Neve VR Legend
and since then I couldn't feel that warm and precise sound again...
I got this plugin for free as an offer when I bought my uad-2 duo
It can just be amazingly sweet or aggressive: the way you want it to be!
Neve means snow in italian... but nothing could be less cold than this!!! ;-)
I got this channel strip through the previous promotion with UAD-2 Satellite Quad.
I was a little underwhelmed by the eq section of the strip as I found it wasn't as responsive as I expected but maybe it's how the real thing behaves. Don't get me wrong it's still very nice but I wanted more coloured tone out of it.
can't beat the audio quality, just fantastic. The gui seems a little glitchy in Sonar 8.5 x64 but the Sound is worth the effort.
