    Great tool for specific sources

    by M. Poncy . 4 out of 5 stars

Fairchild has met all expectations has more color than some other plug-compressors [1176 or LA-2], so it either works or it doesn't depending on source. Really shines on upper piano, helping to square it in the mix. Also livens up voiceovers. Another great plug! Thanks UA!

A very good plugin on a variety of sources. I use it most on acoustic guitar and kick drum. It stays on kick almost all the time, because it really gives the kick some thump, if you adjust the DC bias properly. This used to be my go-to drum buss compressor, because it can have a lot of flavor and agression on the first time constant mode. However, you have to be careful, because there is a boost that happens while engaging this plugin in the upper mids that can cause cymbals to jump out and sound harsh. Also, the plugin will reduce the low end a little on whatever source you use it on.

Depending on the voice, this compressor can do a great job. On some voices, I hear a smooth and thick sound resulting from a few db of GR. Sometimes, however, the singer's peaks sound "gabbed" in the wrong way (ie, the compressor lets go at a strange point.) A lot of folks favor this plugin on bass, but I have not found it useful there yet. On the mix buss, the same potential for problems exists as on the drum buss, but the FC can really provide some nice glue to the sound. I have found this plugin most useful on time constant one. I can't really find use for the others. Great job, UAD. I have found in most cases that UAD plugins have a "vibe" that others do not.

It might sound strange but i only use this comp when i want more loudness. It's probably not fair because it can do a lot more. It's just that i personally love it for that quality. And i have other compressors i can use to reduce peaks.
The sound is so familliar, i feel like a pro just by turning it on. (wow i sound great)
My initial reason for buying it was the flexibility it gives for compressing left and right channels seperatley. But then i found out it can also compress the mono and stereo signal seperatley.
To be honest i'm still learning how to use it effectively, but thats because i am a beginner. For now i use it's functions i know, and it does the trick. Never again will i have loudness problems. And i still have a lot of dynamic in my master track.

    The Glue Factory

    by A. Dowling . 4 out of 5 stars

A number of years ago, I spent time with the UAD-1 platform while recording and mixing an album. At that time, I recall being shocked at the quality of the Fairchild plugin, the distinct character it imparted, and the fluid restraint it could give to a drum or stereo buss. I have recently added the UAD-2 system to my own mixing studio and the Fairchild was my very first purchase. I have tried many native plugins in recent years and some are excellent but, I never did find a compressor that affected me the way the UAD Fairchild did on that project. I was delighted to discover that the UAD Fairchild is still as impressive as I remember. There is certainly a quality to this plugin that cannot be found anywhere else in the digital world.

    Smooth and adds life

    by M. Panagaris . 4 out of 5 stars

I have used other fairchild plugins in the past and i can say this one breathes life into your track. Plenty of control over the plugin, the bias control is a big plus giving you that extra control that some other plugins do not. Only giving 4 stars because the new Fairchild Tube Limiter Collection is out and that has a bit of an edge over this one from initial testing, otherwise it would of been a 5.

    Fairchild

    by A. Lawson . 4 out of 5 stars

This guy does that Fairchild thing, it really doesn't even touch my quad card, I feel I could put these on for days. Great on the drum, gtr, mix buss, this plugin is a win..

Great for guitars and keys, nice M/S function

    by E. Fumagalli . 4 out of 5 stars

I've been using this plugin for the last couple of weeks (I just bought an Apollo) and I find that the Fairchild 670 is incredible on stereo keyboard tracks or busses. Also on guitars it adds shimmer. The coloration is pleasing and it makes stuff cut through in the mix, though it takes out a bit of the low end.

Lat/Vert mode is very useful on busses for mid/side compression purposes and stereo enhancement.

    Fairchild 670 Compressor Plug-In

    by R. Remus-Nicolae . 4 out of 5 stars

Thank you for the Fairchild 670 Plug-In.
Universal Audio used the component-modeling techniques to provide the sonic signature close to the Fairchild 670 hardware compressor providing a nice coloring digital plug-in.
Fairchild 670 compressor plug-in can be used gentle on the bus, or used for mid side compression, it can also bring more space when using in ACG Lat Vert mode to compress the Sum and Difference separately.

    nice for orchestral material

    by M. Brawer . 4 out of 5 stars

i use this to add a little flavor to horn / string busses - read the manual, it's a little peculiar in its behavior, but with the right tweaking can add a lot of character

    A very good sounding compressor

    by J. Weissflog . 4 out of 5 stars

I never had the origianl Fairchild 670 in my hands but I heard other emulations that pretty much sounded like a standard compressor. The UA Fairchild 670 emualtion has a wonderful character and depending on your settings it can do its job gentle or 'hands on'. As UA has updated many of their emulations recently I would suppose that this one is on their list also. But never the less I can fully recommend this plug-in.

    Review from DWSD

    by D. Wray . 4 out of 5 stars

So. I waited a while to review this because I wanted to give the product a fair assessment.
While I tried the hardware for just a short period, I have tried other emulations before.
& If your familiar with the fairchild name & hardware line, You'd have fairly high expectations from the software.
For ease of use, in the box, price, & true to form accuracy, This gets my approval as currently the most accurate version of the hardware.
    Great stuff!

Older plug but still worth having

    by M. Ballenger . 4 out of 5 stars

Granted this is one of the older UAD emulations, but it was done so well that it holds up. The lat/vert modes of the Fairchild make it very useful for manipulating the stereo image in ways that are difficult to achieve with simple stereo imaging plugins. This (and other UAD compressors) really needs a true sidechain feature to make workflow more efficient.

    Fairchild 670

    by J. Brown . 4 out of 5 stars

I love the sound of this unit.... Being a young engineer and never having used the REAL Hardware unit also coming from the WAV** Version I have to get used to the controls but overall I am very pleased with it... I gather that the Puigchild was cheating a bit with Lat/Vert but this unit is very very clean..........

This thing makes everything sound better.
