This accelerator is the best way to work with UAD's plugins while on the road...
I'd give it 5 stars for sure, BUT:
Apple doesn't manufacture MacBooks with PCI Card slot anymore... my MacBook 2008 is getting kind of old and with a new MacBook I will no longer be able to carry my UAD plugins around with me.
Please UAD, invent something similar that works "on the road" without having to buy and carry around 3 or 4 new adaptors and stuff... like for example a "Thunderbolt DSP stick" or "USB3 DSP stick" or something like that... Or convince Apple to build in PCI Card slots again... That's my only wish for this year...
and thanks for the gratis-plugin Pultec-Pro.
I am very pleased with the UAD card. Without them I can no longer work.
My favorite plugins are: 1176, Pultec, Cambridge, Precisious limiters, multiband Precisious and Lexicon 224 reverb.
Your customers work is very clever. What strikes me is negative, the high price of the plugins (for example, the Oxford EQ, SPL, Lexicon at the original manufacturers cheaper than UAD). 30-40% less would be better. I'm still a couple of plug-ins to buy, but the price is too high.
A quick impression as I haven't used it on anything major yet; I got a great deal on this dis-continued product, was looking at a Satellite but really wanted the simplicity and portability that the Laptop Solo affords so am very happy on that count.
I love it for the access to the LA 2A alone, the sound and feel of compression I've been looking for and which is much better than any software comps that come with my DAW programs (PT and Studio One)
Also, so far, the EMT-250 works very well in context hence I'm excited by the possibilities of the UAD software I have yet to try.
As a portable option, the amount of power is just fine and if I do require more when back in the studio then a Satellite will be the next option.
Je suis très heureux d'utiliser vos machine et plugins ils correspondent à se que j'attends d'outils professionnels précis et musicale.
I bought the Uad 2 laptop to improve the sound of my over all mix. It did.
Instead of the mixes sounding muddy they came out tight and clean.
The 1176 and the LA 2 A allow me to put power and energy into the mix
without squashing the hell out of it.
Burn Down Babylon
By buying UAD-2 I was expecting to find a professional tool in the service of my music. To be honest I never really had confidence in plugins, but I confess to being satisfied with the musicality of it there.
My next purchase will probably plug the Apollo and Studer and Ampex and the Neve 88RS and Fairchild 670.
Thank you for your work when a 610 console like in the good times and a magnetic analog to modern vintage sound.
I would taker I think have products that will delight your fans.
After using UAD1 for 4-5 years it was a big problem for me when I got rid of desktop computer. I was also conciderig to buy magma chasis, but just before I did that, SOLO/Laptop appeared. With this little device i had 2.5 power of my old UAD1 with more plugs made just for UAD2 platform, and no need for investment in external chasis. Unfortunally Apple removed Express Card from 15" right after 1st gen of 15" Unybody...
UAD SOLO/Laptop looks pretty fragile, but I gues it is not. mine is still in one piece, and sometimes it travels with me. I was expecting a fancy little protective bag or case in a box when it arrived, but there was nothing in, so I built one myself. This little device is too precious to me. Travel box i did for it looks awful, but it does serves its purpose.
I still belive it would not cost Universal Audio much to provide something to cary UAD2 safely arround.
with old generations of plugs, this little beast is powerful enough to handle even a biger mixing sessions, but nu gen (such as Farso etc) are real DSP hogs, so dual or quad DSP cards are preferrble.
When I work on a client's music, I tend to use the UAD platform, as it gives a certain "umph" and color that works well.
When collaborating with other musicians who run the same DAW as I do, well, then I tend to use the DAW's native plugs...for compatibility.
Of course, I choose the emulation modes that closely resemble the UAD units.
"I don´t need a hardware based software solution for plug ins since the native cpu power as high as today!"
...this is what I hear when I´m talking about my UAD plug ins.
Then I´ve been asked "how did you get your drums so fat but punchy and clear" or "how did you get your masters so loud but naturaly sounding".
For me most important thing with plug ins is the quality of the algorithm which results direct in the soundquality. Today its quite simple to program a basic working plug in and give it a bombastic and fat look, but don´t underestimate the human brain, 80% comes from your eyes..."it looks fat, it must sound fat" but switch off your monitor when testing plug ins can help you to find the real sound you´re looking for.... which is for me the UAD.
I love the simple possibility to have a dry/wet mix parameter at dynamics such as Precision Multiband Compressor or Precision Maximiser.
The Harrison 32C EQ has become my standard tool after 5 years of the Cambridge.
Sometimes I hear "a EQ is a EQ" then I say "I have the choice of 5-10 different ones in my daw, then why did I allways use the Harrioson"
The answer is quite simpel: because UAD is a workinghorse and a great tool for me. I won´t miss it.
sorry for my english

Bodo Felusch (Unvirtual-Music)
I like this product. It gives med the possibilities that others have in costing outboard :-)
Top product...unfortunately not enough power, would have loved to get a quad instead.
