Good product, but has different sound to the original.
I like this limiter but a different animal.
Would love to have the early blue face limiter copied exactly in a stereo form. The Blue face with the low noise mod switchable on&off. Dean Jensen designed that particular mod which was not a Putnam Sr. piece of work, as I remember anyway, therefor the switch allowing both designs would be a great. Sometimes a little noise is good in digital recording.
Copied exactly without the distortion cleanups so often designed n by current UA engineers tempted to improve everything is best IMHO. You could then feel confident calling it Vintage.
We know old designs weren't perfect. Some of that imperfection we want like the transformer tone. Bill Whitlock @ Jensen understands.
I have used a vintage 1176 unit for many years in the broadcast industry and loved it.
When I saw that the new Universal Audio had come out with a new dual unit I just had to have one. I purchased it way back in 2006 and have been using it for a number of years as a replacement for the origional 1176 mono unit as a replacement. I might mention her that the 1176 had been in service for over 15 years without a problem and since installing the new dual 1176 which has now been in service for over seven years, we have not had a single problem and do not expect to have one.
Thank you Universal Audio for making a great product which in not only reliable but sounds great also.
This is my second 2-1176 and I love this unit !
I also own a 6176 channel strip and can't wait to get another. I highly recommend it !
A Great investment. Very easy to get great sound out of this unit. I bought this to use to compress tracks on the way in to my DAW. Gave a really full bodied aggressive yet smooth character to vocals and made drum room busses just roar with attitude. When used in conjunction with either the UA 610 pre or a Neve 1073 your tracks just come to life. Highly recommend the 2-1176 or even just the 1176LN.
This is a really versatile punchy compressor which I use to compress drums and often use for rap vocals to help give them prescence. Once recorded, I don't need to use another compressor in my DAW, the vox always sit right.
Stereo mode is handy and time saving - a great compressor for everyday use.
