It's grown on me - especially for hard rock
I'm using this quite frequently on the stereo buss, for hard rock music. Just a tickle on the reduction meters and it adds a fullness and rounds rough edges without obliterating transients.

Small changes
Does work either on 1/2 of the unit or other half never seems to be able to turn on. The half that works, for the DSP use it's smarter to use BXMasterdesk for me.

Mastering compressor close to perfection.
I bought a Shadow Hill Mastering Compressor and I've been using it on so many different tracks.
Operating in two forms, this attractive compressor is very effective not only for mastering but also for use as a bus compressor or a single compressor.
I feel that the ShadowHill compressor feels something luxurious.
Too often, of course, it won't bring the desired result.
If used properly, you will feel a sound no other compressor can feel.
Personally, I use a lot of compressors, and when I want to create a special color, I usually use shadow heel compressors.
Oh and! One of the biggest advantages of shadowhill compressors is that they use really little DSP. (Price is expensive)

Great but not mind blowing like other UA plugs.
This is one of very few UA plugins I feel is a bit cumbersome to dial in. Certainly not as easy to get where I want as quickly as other UA plugins. But it definitely has its own sound. I find it darker than other UA compressors, but its got its uses for sure.
If you can get passed the "mastering compressor" line, and try using it other sources, like drum bus, bass or guitars, synths, even vocal backgrounds, you will quickly find it to be just as powerful a tool as other plugins in your arsenal.

Having tried various other versions including SK Note SDC, Acustica Aquamarine, UAD's emulation is the closest you can get to the real thing. Makes it into my Top 3 Mastering compressors everytime which includes elysia alpha & Sonoris SMCP.

Good weighty plugin
I haven't used the original a whole lot, but this plugin has the weightiness that I remember from the actual unit. It sounds great just barely bumping the needles.

it's monster machine for master, great 3d sound. 4 stars because don't like put it in the single track, i only use it on the master. for master great plug in i'm very satisfied

Clean and Clear
Very clean mastering compressor. Adds *just* the right amount of punch to the master, pairs well with some other form of compression. Use this subtly for the best effect.

bad tool for mastering and mixing
I originally took the shadow hills compressor just to add it to my mastering suite, but then i realize how much inproved also my mixbus, or to add a particular color to individual instruments and vocals; Although the plugin is well written, I think I feel some small difference from the hardware
