A number of years ago, I spent time with the UAD-1 platform while recording and mixing an album. At that time, I recall being shocked at the quality of the Fairchild plugin, the distinct character it imparted, and the fluid restraint it could give to a drum or stereo buss. I have recently added the UAD-2 system to my own mixing studio and the Fairchild was my very first purchase. I have tried many native plugins in recent years and some are excellent but, I never did find a compressor that affected me the way the UAD Fairchild did on that project. I was delighted to discover that the UAD Fairchild is still as impressive as I remember. There is certainly a quality to this plugin that cannot be found anywhere else in the digital world.
The impact of this Plugin is immediately eveident when I compared it to my Waves Puigchild 670. The UA version has so much more "punch", "warmth" and "depth". Recently, I used it on a Drum Buss, and could not believe how much it added to the impact of the kit. I love the plug!!!!
This compressor is a steal at 79 dollars! I use it on EVERY production, on individual tracks and the mix bus.Especially PIANOS (no-one else seems to be using it for this...?). An old 16bit East West Grand piano into the Fairchild 760, then into EMT 140 'B' reverb with lots of pre-delay is CLASS!!!!. It got me a BAFTA nomination!
I like this plugin a lot. I have never used the hardware version of the fairchild but I tried the UA demo as my hardware mastering compressor was in the shop. I liked it and ended up purchasing the plugin and have used it for mastering in most projects since. Don't forget to rock the lat/vert setting!
I get so accustomed to using the LA-2A for compressing vocals that I have to shake myself by the shoulders sometimes to get out of my habits. This is my second review of this compressor due to the fact that this evening I was mixing a harmony vocal through an aux bus and I felt I wasn't quite getting the results I wanted for this song with the LA-2A. I started looking through my compressors and loaded up the Fairchild and found the "Center Squasher" preset to be exactly what I was looking for to give that track just a little more energy. Good stuff I say!
Engineer's and mixers want tools that will enhance& transform their audio to the next level. The Fairchild 670 offers vintage compression that brings new life to whatever signal it touches. It's a mainstay on my vocal channel, really makes them stand-out in a mix like no other. If you want to make it big & loud (and vintage) you need this. This is a desert island plug-in, the best of the best. Can't believe you don't have this yet.
I think the Fairchild 670 plugin has already been reviewed a thousand times - maybe even more than that. So what can 'I' say or add that's making sense? Nothing :) But if you are looking for a serious and hi-end sounding vintage compressor that shines on nearly every signal you feed in the Fairchild 670 is tha plugin you were looking for. I can not compare it to the hardware original (as I simply don't own one), but all other reviews and the sound I get out of my UAD are simply amazing! What else does one need? It's warm, fat and tight, exactly what I was looking for and exactly what I expected when I got it. This plugin gives you 100% sound!!
A very good plugin on a variety of sources. I use it most on acoustic guitar and kick drum. It stays on kick almost all the time, because it really gives the kick some thump, if you adjust the DC bias properly. This used to be my go-to drum buss compressor, because it can have a lot of flavor and agression on the first time constant mode. However, you have to be careful, because there is a boost that happens while engaging this plugin in the upper mids that can cause cymbals to jump out and sound harsh. Also, the plugin will reduce the low end a little on whatever source you use it on.
Depending on the voice, this compressor can do a great job. On some voices, I hear a smooth and thick sound resulting from a few db of GR. Sometimes, however, the singer's peaks sound "gabbed" in the wrong way (ie, the compressor lets go at a strange point.) A lot of folks favor this plugin on bass, but I have not found it useful there yet. On the mix buss, the same potential for problems exists as on the drum buss, but the FC can really provide some nice glue to the sound. I have found this plugin most useful on time constant one. I can't really find use for the others. Great job, UAD. I have found in most cases that UAD plugins have a "vibe" that others do not.
It might sound strange but i only use this comp when i want more loudness. It's probably not fair because it can do a lot more. It's just that i personally love it for that quality. And i have other compressors i can use to reduce peaks.
The sound is so familliar, i feel like a pro just by turning it on. (wow i sound great)
My initial reason for buying it was the flexibility it gives for compressing left and right channels seperatley. But then i found out it can also compress the mono and stereo signal seperatley.
To be honest i'm still learning how to use it effectively, but thats because i am a beginner. For now i use it's functions i know, and it does the trick. Never again will i have loudness problems. And i still have a lot of dynamic in my master track.
Nice compressor, smooth, good on vocals, acoustic guitars, stereo instruments places them in a mix without making them sound too stereo... if that makes sense. Surprisingly good at smashing drums up. A very useful compressor.
Just plug the plug in and magic to your sound , very power leads for psy trance
If you want a booty but tight sound, this is the best compressor I have ever had.
I use it for drums, bass, guitars, pianos... anything sounds amazing through it.
Even for mastering!
many of the UAD plugins are beasts, but this one was the first to freak me right out. if you've ever used a fairchild especially for mastering, this will blow you away! makes my jams sparkle & gives a width, depth, and richness to my mixes
There's almost no point in reviewing these UA products. All the one's I own sound awesome, instantly. The Fairchild is no exception. I've been using it on a Earthworks Piano system mic'd Steinway grand, top closed and blanketed. Ran the EW thru API pre's into a Distressor. Now it's in my PT10HD session with the Fairchild before the SSL channel strip as plugin's. Tons of sustain and sparkly magic, works great in a mix with big rock drums and guitars. Also using the Fairchild on the drum buss as well. Tons of impact, smoothing and vibe.
I hope you bring the prices down on all your plug-in it would make it affordable and realistic for a customer to buy. Your products are great support it with good pricing.

Give me more power, warm, and sparkles... best for drum and vocal
i often use the 670 fairchild just for a little "vintage" touch. analog modelled synths get that last tiny bit of "yeah, that´s it!" and sound more open.
The Fairchild 670 really helps bring certain instruments into focus, without overcompressing...an invaluable tool.
i really must hand it to UA, they make plug ins that really work in the real world, i have never listened to the hardware version of one of these suckers, but the plug is simply wonderful, it creates some artificial harmonics that you really cant hear without it, no matter how many plug ins you set up in the chain, it simply blows a hell of a lot of compressors out of the water, if you dont have it already, try it, i KNOW you're gonna buy it.
